How to Add Music Bot to Discord – Steps to Add Groovy Bot
As mentioned previously, the steps to add a Groovy bot is not exactly rocket science. Just follow all the steps that have been discussed below and you will be good to go.
STEP 1: Open the official website of Groovy bot. There are two ways in which you can do this. The first one is where you simply search for “Groovy bot” on your preferred search engine.
The second one is where you open the official website of Groovy bot directly which is Groovy.bot.
STEP 2: Once you have entered the official website of Groovy bot, you will see a pink coloured button on your screen that will read “Add to Discord”. You will have to click this button.
Conversely you can also click another similar button that say “Add to Discord”. This one will be located on top of your screen towards your left in the Groovy bot website. Upon clicking either button, the Groovy bot will be invited on your server.
STEP 3: After you have clicked either of the two buttons that read “Add to Discord”, you will receive a notification.
It will be about signing in to your account on Discord. Once you sign in or you had already signed in to your account in Discord, you will be asked to select that server on Discord to which you are intending to add your Groovy bot.
STEP 4: Once you are done selecting your preferred server wherein you intend to include your Groovy bot, you will receive a message. It will ask you to grant permission.
- Once you grant it, the server will get an automatic administrator access. It is up to you whether you want the Groovy bot to be able to access your server all the time.
- In case you are thinking not to, you can just uncheck the box adjacent to the administrator access option. Once this is done, you will have to select the button that says Authorize.
- You have successfully added your Groovy bot to your server on Discord.
That means you will receive a confirmation message for Groovy bot which will probably popup on the sidebar to your right. Now all that is left is to use the Groovy bot on Discord.
For that you will have to create a voice channel. This channel will be present on your server in Discord. Chances are that you probably have one already, so you can just go ahead and use the Groovy bot commands directly. But in case you have not created the voice channel, this is how you proceed.
How to create a voice channel on Discord
Let us quickly go through the steps of creating a voice channel on Discord. It’s really easy.
- You will notice a + symbol on your tab.
- Once you click that tab it will pop up the dashboard to create the channel for the Groovy bot.
- From there, you will have to choose any voice channel and click on it so that the channel is created.
After you have successfully created the voice channel all that is left is to use the different of Groovy bot commands which are also pretty easy as we will explain in the next section.
Groovy bot commands
If I have not mentioned it already, Groovy bot comprises lots of commands that help with different functionalities of this Discord music bot. These commands will help you make the most out of Discord Groovy Bot. The important Groovy bot commands are mentioned below.
1. Play Command
Using this command, you can play whichever song you like on your voice channel. All you have to do is –
- Use the command “-play” or “-p”.
- Let’s say you type “-play What Makes You Beautiful” on your voice channel.
- In that case Groovy bot will start to play automatically the song “What Makes You Beautiful” by One Direction.
The song will continue to play as long as you have not left the voice channel. Once you leave the song will also stop playing.
It will resume only when you go back to the channel. You have the choice to play your favourite track by either typing its name or its link either from YouTube, Spotify, or even Soundcloud.
This one is the most used Groovy bot command as you can play as many songs as you would like by just providing the song’s online link.
2. Queue Command
This command helps you to add the songs one after the other in the form of a queue along with the “play” command.
- Let’s say you type in the commands “-play Call Me Maybe” followed by “-play Never Give Up”.
- That means you will first hear Call Me Maybe and then Never Give Up on your voice channel.
- Never Give Up will be on queue.
- To view the songs that are in queue just type the command “-q” or “-queue”.
The above two were the major Groovy bot commands. This one will help you create a playlist of songs to be played one after another on your server.
You should also know about some of the other ones.
3. Join Command
The function of this command is to enable Groovy bot to join the voice channel you created. To execute this command
- Type “-join”.
4. Disconnect Command
The is the opposite of the previously discussed command. The function of this command is to clear all songs that are part of your queue. It will also disconnect Groovy bot from the voice channel that you created.
- Just type “-disconnect”.
5. Next Command:
If you don’t want to listen to the song playing currently, just skip to the one after that or the one after that in your queue. To execute this command
- Type “-next”.
6. Previous Command:
If you loved the song that you were listening to a while ago, you can go back to it. To execute this command
- Type “-previous”.
Basically, it is the opposite of the previously discussed command.
7. Pause Command:
If you get a call to finish a household chore, don’t leave your channel. Just pause the song.
- Type “-pause”.
This will pause the song currently playing at that moment and you can resume it from that point when you come back.
8. Resume Command:
Once you come back from doing the chore and want to resume listening,
- Just type “-resume”
and the song will get unpaused and start playing from where you left it at pause.
9. Clear Command:
If you are bored with your current playlist and want to create a new one, then you should use this Groovy bot command in order to remove every song in your queue.
- Just type “-clear”
Once you clear the current playlist, you can then create a new one using the Queue command on Groovy bot as we discussed previously.

11. Shuffle Command:
Suppose you don’t want the songs to play in the order they have been arranged in the queue.
- Type the command “-shuffle”
- All the songs in Groovy bot will start playing random without following the queue.
Random songs give us a sense of cheerful uncertainity as we cannot predict which song will come next, anything seems possible at that moment. It is a nice change. Even if you are playing a specific playlist, the songs will get suffled and will not play in the pre-arranged order.
12. Song Command:
Suppose your friend wants to know more about this song that you are playing.
- Just type “-song”
and the Groovy bot will give you all the necessary details about the song in question including the year of release, artists, duration, etc.
13. Jump Command:
In case you are wondering how you can skip the song that you are playing currently and jump directly to a particular song in your Groovy bot queue.
- Just type “-jump”.
In addition to the above Groovy bot commands, the music bot offers a plethora of features as well as commands. You can access these in the premium version of Discord. These commands include audio effects, bass boost, pitch, speed, and volume to name a few.
